Preah Sihanouk Governor Calls on People to Save Water as Dam Repairs Will Take 3 Days

PREAH SIHANOUK: Following the collapse of the second dam in Kbal Chhay and a water filtration station, which led to the loss of around three million cubic meters on Saturday night, 7 January, the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Authority has been working on repairs and on finding a way to temporarily supply water to the inhabitants of Sihanoukville.

Preah Sihanouk Governor, Kouch Chamroeun, is directly overlooking the issue and has urged the technical team to speed up the repair of the second and third dams of the ANCO Water Supply Company in Sangkat 1, Sihanoukville, as well as to complete the repair of the pump head and power lines that were damaged by the landslide. He has instructed the technical team to complete this work in three days.

Governor Kouch Chamroeun emphasized that the collapse did not cause a complete shortage of water in Sihanoukville, however, people are called on to save water and stop any unnecessary water uses, such as watering gardens, for the time being.

The Governor confirmed that there are currently four technical teams working on the issue. The first team is working on repairing the damaged pump head. The second team is repairing the electricity lines and poles that collapsed. The third team is setting up a dam using machinery and trucks to keep water for the people. The fourth team is working on connecting the water supply from the second dam to the first dam, so that the water can be properly transferred to the filtration station.
